How we work

From Initial Assessment to Final Handover 

A communications network only earns its keep once it's live. Everything in our process is built around getting it there without surprises. 

Fibre and structured cabling projects fail for the same handful of reasons: requirements that were never properly understood, pathway and cabling contractors working from different assumptions, and testing that happens too late to catch a problem before handover. Our process exists to close off each of those failure points in order, not to add steps for their own sake. 

The seven stages below reflect how we run every project, from a single communications room upgrade to a complete fibre and structured cabling package across a new facility. The scale changes; the discipline doesn’t.

1. Assess 

We start on site, not at a desk. Before anything is designed, we inspect the existing infrastructure, understand how the network is actually used day to day, and define the technical and operational requirements the solution needs to meet. 

This typically includes: 

  • Site inspections and existing infrastructure assessments
  • Pathway and conduit condition assessment
  • Communications room and rack audits
  • Wireless coverage and performance assessment where relevant
  • Clarifying the operational requirement behind the request, not just the request itself  

This stage is where most of the risk in a project either gets found or gets missed. We treat it as the foundation for everything that follows, not a formality on the way to a quote.  

2. Design 

We develop a practical communications solution covering pathways, cabling, equipment locations, capacity and future expansion requirements. Every design decision is made against the site conditions and operational requirements identified in the Assess stage, not a generic template. 

This typically includes: 

  • Fibre network planning and route design 
  • Communications pathway and backbone planning
  • Preliminary system layouts
  • Constructability reviews against real site access and conditions
  • Scope development

3. Plan 

We coordinate materials, access, resources, shutdowns, interfaces and project documentation before work begins. On live sites, this is often the difference between a smooth cutover and an unplanned outage.

This typically includes: 

  • Equipment and material selection and 
procurement coordination 
  • Installation planning and program and resource coordination
  • Stakeholder management and builder and trade coordination
  • Shutdown and cutover planning for live-environment works

4. Install 

Our technicians complete the civil communications infrastructure, cabling, fibre splicing, equipment installation and associated construction activities. This is where our in-house capability across pathway, cabling, fibre and wireless work pays off: one crew, one standard, no handoff between subcontractors mid-project. 

This typically includes: 

  • Communications trenching, conduit and subduct installation, and pit installation
  • Structured copper and data cabling, including patch panel and outlet installation
  • Fibre cable hauling, fusion splicing and termination 
  • Rack, cabinet and communications room fit-out 
  • Wireless access point installation and cabling 

Because pathway, cabling and fibre work all sit under one roof, there’s no interface risk between contractors blaming each other’s scope. That accountability sits with us. 

5. Test and Commission 

The completed infrastructure is tested, inspected and verified against the required project and system performance criteria before we call anything finished. We don’t consider an installation complete until it’s been proven to perform, not just installed to look right. 

This typically includes: 

  • OTDR testing, insertion-loss and optical power testing for fibre 
  • Structured cabling certification and link testing
  • Continuity and connection testing
  • Post-installation validation for wireless infrastructure
  • Quality inspections and defect identification and closeout 

This is the stage carrier-grade experience shows up most clearly: acceptance testing isn’t optional or a box-ticking exercise, it’s the proof that the network will actually hold up in operation. 

6. Document and Handover 

Clients receive the agreed test results, labelling schedules, asset information, asconstructed records and completion documentation. A network you can’t document is a network you can’t maintain, so this stage gets the same rigour as the install itself.

This typically includes: 

  • As-constructed drawings and outlet or port schedules
  • Full test results and certification records
  • Rack elevation drawings and cable labelling records
  • Defect closeout and handover coordination 

Good handover documentation is what lets your team, or the next contractor, pick up the network years later and understand exactly what was built and why. 

7. Maintain and Upgrade 

We remain available to maintain, repair, expand and upgrade the network as operational requirements change. Handover isn’t the end of the relationship; it’s the point where ongoing support starts. 

This typically includes: 

  • Scheduled communications inspections and preventative maintenance
  • Emergency fault response and repair
  • Network capacity expansions and equipment relocations
  • Staged migrations and upgrades in live operational environments 

Maintenance services can be delivered as individual callouts, programmed works or under an ongoing service arrangement, depending on what the site actually needs.
